About Tau Sigma Theta

Tau Sigma Theta, Inc. was locally founded by Six dedicated women on May 26, 2012, in Prairie View, Texas. The founding members Catrina Burks-Seals, Tabitha Burks, TeTaime Burks-Green, Shakia Roberts, Carassia Seals, and Alisha Seals were united by a vision for advancing the lives of educated women. They were determined to establish a new organization that departed from traditional coalitions for African-American women and was grounded in the values of scholarship, service, sisterly love, and Finer Womanhood. In May 2012, the idea was brought to life as these women came together to create a non-traditional Greek sisterhood. The interest group was formed after a year of dedication, perseverance, and patience. The Fortitude Founding Mothers laid the foundation for a sisterhood that would amplify the voices of Southern women, address their unique concerns, and foster active community involvement. The group was also committed to self-exploration and to creating an everlasting sisterhood.   The Fortitude Founding Mothers of Tau Sigma Theta sought to build a sorority based on the five pillars of sisterhood, Respect, Loyalty, Honesty, and Friendship. Their vision has since evolved into Tau Sigma Theta, which aspires to become one of the most prominent women’s sororities. Their mission continues to grow, with new membership opportunities soon to be available.

In May 2012, at Catrina Seals' home, the concept of a non-Greek sisterhood was born. After a year of diligent effort, the interest group was established in Hempstead, TX. The founding mothers aimed to address the needs of Southern women and positively impact their community. Their vision blossomed into a lasting sisterhood, creating a powerful legacy.
